16 april 2017The making of Mongozo Coconuts

We are often asked whether Mongozo’s exotic ‘glasses’ are real coconut shells. Well, yes, they are! They come from Indonesia and each year thousands of them arrive at our brewery. No, they are not made of plastic, as people sometimes think. There are six different coconut shells in each box. Drinking one of our exotic beers out of an exotic ‘glass’ only adds to the experience. Mongozo’s beers carry the Fairtrade logo. This means that we use ingredients purchased at a fair price from farmers in developing countries. No child labour is involved in the production of the ingredients we purchase, which include bananas, mangoes and rice. We apply the same criteria when buying our coconut shells. The producers of the coconut shells recently made a short film, showing the process involved.
